Can you really talk to the dead?

How to Host a Safe Seance

Have you ever been to a séance? Where groups of people try to communicate with the dead. Or are they the undead? Are these immortal spirits in limbo, destined to be in between two worlds–living and dead?

Séances are genuine and speaking to the undead is real, no matter what others may say. There have been accounts of them as early as the 16th century, and unexplained events have shown that there really is a line of communication from those who are living are those who are not…from both directions. The living reach out to the dead, the undead reach out to the living.

Still. Some wonder, can you actually speak the dead? It seems that many people believe they’ve spoken to those who have passed on, communicated to those beyond the grave. Even if it’s not actually speaking, the undead have given signs to their loved ones–or even strangers. Apparitions, sounds of knocking, cold breezes–sometimes the living dead let their presence be known in different ways.

When you have an séance, a medium is usually involved to contact the spirits, and séances are especially powerful in the presence of a medium. A medium–being a person who seems to have a unique and direct connection to the dead. The mediums’ minds are open to the voices they hear from the beyond. That’s not to say a loved one who has passed on will try to give signs to those that were close to them. Or those who are even just physically close to them. Séances have conjured up spirits just from physical locations–with no personal connection to the people involved.

To those that ask for indications that the dead want to reach out to them at an séance, that’s not to say they are still trying to communicate with living souls. They may have passed, but they still want to speak to those that are alive–something about their life, something about the connection they had with the living, something that haunts them that they never said or revealed. Possibly there’s unfinished words, unfinished business–the afterlife allows them to complete what they needed to say. Who can say what the dead might want to communicate to their living friends and family? It may be one last chance to say something that was very meaningful.

We here at Thrillvania Haunted House Park are not sure if it is possible to talk to the dead or undead, but we have witnessed spirits roaming the grounds from time to time. Come visit Thrillvania and find out for yourself. Thrillvania will open its doors Saturday September 27, 2014 at 8:00pm 2330 County Road 138, Terrell, Tx 75161

The Legend of Werewolf Michel Verdun

werewolf-in-london1-thumb-300xauto-34643Was Frenchman Michel Verdun a werewolf, or a psychopathic murderer–or both?

Have you heard a wolf’s howl? And how do you know that’s it’s a wolf–what if it’s something very different?

In the 1500s, three men were brought to trial for murder, torture and other heinous crimes. One of these men was Michel Verdun, self-proclaimed werewolf.

During Verdun’s trial, he named two accomplices to his horrific deeds–Philibert Montot and Pierre Bourgot. Bourgot also claimed to be a werewolf.  But were these confessions obtained after the men had been tortured? Verdun’s legend lives on at Thrillvania Haunted House Park–as a genuine werewolf who killed and ate men and women as he roamed the countryside.

One particular story was offered to prove his guilt and is the basis for the werewolf lore surrounding Verdun. A man came upon a vicious wolf, but managed to escape the wolf’s attack, severely wounding the beast. The man followed the bloody trail…and at its end was a wounded Michel Verdun. The man became convinced that Verdun was able to transform himself from human to wolf, and something in between. The story spread like wildfire, and Verdun was charged with lycanthropy (the ability to change from human to wolf).547werewolves2

Bourgot corroborated the account, and said at trial that Verdun had taken him to a Wiccan/Pagan ritual known as a Sabbat. There, Verdun initiated Bourgot, so that he could also assume wolf-form. Verdun applied an ointment to Bourgot and this magical and wicked salve transformed him into a bloodthirsty werewolf.

Convicted of lycanthropy and murder–all three men were burned at stake. Verdun’s wife was also convicted, although there was never any evidence provided that she could shape-shift like Verdun and the others. But the high court wanted to be sure.

Friday the 13th and a Full Moon, too: It’s too horrible to imagine!

Full Moon Friday the 13th

We tend to let our imaginations run wild when we’re planning new haunts here at Thrillvania Haunted House Park but even we can’t quite wrap our minds around the fact that this week we’re going to experience Friday the 13th and a full moon all on the same night. Imagine the possibilities!

This Friday will be the only Friday the 13th in 2014. It also happens to be the first time since October 13, 2000 that a full moon has held reign in the sky on Friday the 13th and it won’t happen again until October 13, 2019.

We’re in for a rare treat this Friday, that’s for sure. Bad luck and weird energy will be coursing through the atmosphere for a full 24 hours. Anything might happen.

Werewolves notoriously stalk their prey by the light of the full moon. But what happens when the full moon falls on Friday the 13th? Who experiences the worst of the heightened bad luck? Does the werewolf trip over a sidewalk crack, thus missing his mark and his monthly feast? Or does his prey, who’s already had the bad luck to become the werewolf’s next target, trip over that same crack and break his mother’s back before he becomes the werewolf’s next meal?

Jason VoorheesAnd what about Jason Voohees? Jason will forever be associated with Friday the 13th, but what happens to him by the light of the full moon? Does he become even more deranged, killing not only sex-crazed, beer-soaked teenaged campers but innocent movie-goers and their lusty dates, too?

And what if the two were to meet? Imagine Jason and The Werewolf going head-to-head by the light of the full moon on Friday the 13th. Who would survive? And who would really be the unluckiest that day – Jason, the Werewolf or YOU!

We’re going to pull out all the stops this Friday the 13th and tempt Fate as we party under the full moon at the Friday the 13th Event at Cutting Edge Haunted Park. Join us if you dare, and if you don’t we’ll see you this fall at Thrillvania Haunted House Park at 2330 County Road 138, in Terrell, Texas.
